How to track LEGO buying and selling profit
A useful profit figure depends on the costs and sale amounts you actually record. BrickzBack Trader can summarise saved holding, listed and sold records using the acquisition cost, fees, postage and revenue you enter.
Record the item's purchase total, then save its actual sold amount, fees and postage after the transaction. Trader calculates a realised result from those recorded figures.
Enter the amounts that describe the transaction
For a tracked item, record the purchase total you paid. When it sells, save the revenue and any fees or postage you want included in the calculation. Trader's summary uses those persisted amounts rather than an estimated market value.
Keep records for holding, listed and sold items distinct so an asking amount is not mistaken for money received.
- Add or confirm the item and its purchase total.
- Keep its status current as it moves through holding and listed.
- After a sale, record the actual revenue, fees and postage.
Read the result as a record-based calculation
The realised result is calculated from the saved sale revenue less recorded purchase costs, fees and postage. If you omit a cost or enter an estimate instead of the actual amount, the result will not include information it does not have.
Use the item-level record to correct amounts and understand what is included before treating a summary as complete.
Do not confuse tracking with accounting advice
Trader is a collection workflow, not a tax return, accounting system or guarantee of net proceeds. It cannot include costs you have not recorded or account for rules specific to your circumstances.
For draft preparation, start with confirmed item details and review the text. BrickzBack does not publish listings, process payments or manage delivery.
Frequently asked questions
What does Trader include in its realised result?
It uses recorded sale revenue less saved purchase cost, fees and postage. Unrecorded costs are not inferred.
Does an asking price count as a sale?
No. Listed value and sold revenue are separate records; enter the actual amount after the item sells.
Is Trader a tax or accounting tool?
No. It helps track saved item amounts but does not provide tax advice or a complete accounting record.
